Doppelgängers Are Good

noun: an apparition or double of a living person

So, some would say “Dinner and a Show”.  But I say “Dichotomy and a Doppelgänger”.  As A Dichotomy that came before stated, I have these two lifestyle interests, two personalities, two passionate goals, that are completely in opposition with each other. With a grateful heart I can say my two daughters represent.

My oldest is traditional, conservative, focused.  My youngest is free spirited, chic, artsy.  They are both brilliant and beguiling and beautiful.  But in very different ways.  They want different things out of life and therefore live their lives differently from each other.  How blessed am I to see myself in both.  As if the universe split my soul down the middle and created two lovely creatures embodying all my wishes and dreams.

We three look remarkably similar.  Differing heights, but same shape, same hair color, same eyes.  They look like me, but they are not me.  They are passing through me, but are not really mine.  The same, but different.  I wonder who they will become, who they will be when they grow up.  What they will do with their passions.  Where they will live, how they will their lives.  I kind of like that about myself…recognizing myself in my children.  But allowing my doppelgängers the space  to create their own dichotomies.

“What I wanted most for my daughter was that she be able to soar confidently in her own sky, whatever that may be.”

  1. I have to say that it’s awesome that you’re letting them grow to be whatever they want. I feel like too few people let their kids decide for themselves, but that is the best way to help them find their passion 🙂 kudos!
