Zhoosh

zhoosh

verb: make more exciting, lively, or attractive

Uh, “Yes, please!”

Not too long ago I came across this word. I hadn’t seen it before, it was a new one for me. I continue to keep thinking about it…I’m more than a little bit in love with it.

It’s always somewhat magical to stumble onto a new word. Especially for those of us that have a passion for them. Words can be like play dough that we hold in our hands and delight in the unique and amazing way that it looks, then we stretch and play with its specialized texture. Sometimes we build something with it and leave it be, for awhile, ’till we mess it up and then build something different, maybe better, more creative, something more meaningful. The word is the inspiration.

It’s such a pleasure to discover something so simple that makes you smile, or uses your imagination in a new way, or makes you understand things differently, or feel some distant emotion. Words are powerful. And I love them. I think I will zhoosh up my life today! (I kind of like that about myself.)

“Words to me were magic. You could say a word and it could conjure up all kinds of images or feelings or a chilly sensation or whatever. It was amazing to me that words had this power.”
