noun: a gesture or utterance made as a greeting or acknowledgement…
Salutations and Greetings! It is the first day of summer…can you believe it? I have always loved the Summer Solstice. The longest day of the year. It is my birthday season. And while I am a water sign, I do live in the desert. And so, I can’t help but think that the sun is, amazing! This big beautiful ball of fire that lights our path, keeps us warm and is responsible for all forms of life. Today, I celebrate her.
I honor the sun today and the official beginning of summer mostly because I am on the count down. To…my…masters…degree! Next week, on the eve of my birthday, I will graduate with a Masters In Education With An Emphasis In Literacy. A little something I have been working on for about 23 years. I left a masters program 20 years ago, half done, for an abundance of good reasons. But I returned 13 months ago to finish what I started and prove to myself that I could do it. Well, SLAYED! Veni vidi vici-I came. I saw. I conquered. Yes, I was the oldest student in the room. And yes again, I even had a few professors younger than I. And yes a third time, I was often lost in the sauce and had a difficult time figuring out the basics like parking, finding classrooms, figuring out Google Docs and even making friends…my children’s ages.
Whew! But…I figured it out…I am beyond amazed by life. Never. Give. Up. And don’t ever underestimate yourself. This is making fifty-something so much more tolerable. I’m not done yet. But I will be by the first of July. So, you can better believe that those fireworks on the fourth are for me this year, celebrating all that is possible.
Oh, and salutations and greetings…I have missed you! I have so much to tell you. We’ll talk. But, for now…struggle. Be challenged. Finish what you start. AND did you know life can be whatever you want it to be if you just start out intentionally greeting it with a fancy way of saying hello or good morning? Just tryin’ to be the best version of myself, and I’m kinda liking it. 😉
“Salutations are greetings” said the voice. “When I say ‘salutations’, it’s just my fancy way of saying hello or good morning.”
